Praying the Psalms, for many years now, is my spiritual practice; deeper than writing. When I cannot possibly find the right words to say, when I am personally overwhelmed, I trust the Psalms. Someone somewhere is always praying, always sending another positive blog post to the world. For all who are suffering in Colorado and other places, I add my voice to the voices of countless others, with a few poems others have found to be helpful for a moment. Blessings, Ellen

I WILL LIFT UP MINE EYES
(quotes from Psalm 121 KJV)
sun rises
above clouds across the sky
“I will lift up mine eyes…”
shines into my soul
“My help cometh from the LORD…”
* * *
losses in life
low setting sun
through branches of trees
now rises again
as birds quietly sing

AUTUMN GRACE
leaves of bleeding hearts
now gold
so do broken hearts mend
so does grief heal
Autumn grace

Good morning, Ellen, I go to the Psalms for strength and solace too. Its difficult to find words to express the depth of sadness we all experience after such meaningless violence. Somehow, the Psalms give us that vocabulary. Your beautiful words touch so many hearts. Thanks, my friend. K

The Psalms are a timeless poetic source of inspiration and comfort, containing the sort of raw honesty that makes one realise none of us are past God’s forgiveness.

I love the Psalms; sometimes they bring tears to my eyes. I love your line “as birds quietly sing”… quietly…that’s how it is sometimes.

I echo your thoughts and those of others who have commented, praying for sheer mercy and grace to lift up the heads of those with unspeakable grief. Your poetry is lovely. When I am so stricken with deep loss and sadness, I find myself praying through the Psalms and singing through the hymnbook.

You would enjoy a retreat at a Benedictine monastery because they base their prayer life on the Psalms and prayer all 150 in the course of a week. Great post.
