falling leaves
and silent sunrise
how easy today
to let go of old dreams
cook some eggs
wash the dishes
write this poem

I love this. Just love it. “Cook some eggs, wash the dishes, write this poem” – perfect. For one thing, it reminds me of Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s “Gift from the Sea”, that wonderful book that lays out the important of rhythms in life. For another, it took me right back to this wonderful paragraph by Annie Dillard.
βThe mind wants to live forever, or to learn a very good reason why not. The mind wants the world to return its love, or its awareness… The mind’s sidekick, however, will settle for two eggs over easy. The dear, stupid body is easily satisfied as a spaniel. And, incredibly, the simple spaniel can lure the brawling mind to its dish. It is everlastingly funny that the proud, metaphysically ambitious mind will hush if you give it an egg.β

I love this poem. Sacred ordinary. Quotidian mystery. Thank you!

Thank you for the telling! Letting go of old dreams is liberating, in my experience. “Let him who has given a favor be silent; let he who has received it tell it.” Qui dedit beneficium taceat; narrat qui accepit — Lucius Annaeus Seneca

how easy today – yes – we make things more difficult than need be – so this is my goal for Oct – ‘how easy today’. Have a lovely day, Ellen! K

I love days like “this”, when I can hear and feel myself “slow down” in quietness, peace. God bless you, Ellen–love, Caddo

I sense a change in the air. It’s good to have stability: eggs, dishes, poems.
