early morning
and reading
many writers
each time I look
the sky has changed

July 2014

This summer I am rereading books by Luci Shaw, along with a few poetry journals. Here and there I look at memoirs from thrift stores.

Always the Psalms – a place of stability and hope for me. So much room for growth. Sometimes good to read something new, and sometimes good to reread.

blue sky and green trees

blue sky and green trees
what a comfort
to read near a window
and see the same view
year after year

much has changed

new learning curves
and all I cannot know
though I learn a little more
every day

and sometimes
what is stored
in the heart is enough

afternoon light

afternoon light
in my small study

shines on small gifts
from my mother
and aunt that I placed
on file cabinets today

a small gesture
that recalls their homes
and brings comfort
to my soul

listened to music
I’ve known for years

poetry books from friends

these many gifts
of each day

Poems: Memories

streets I used to travel
to go to Mom’s house
empty stores here and there
with signs of recovery
peaceful memories

(2012)

holiday lights
in Port Washington
memories
of driving back north
from my mother’s home
all those Sundays
years ago

(2014)

sitting at my blog
grateful for friends
first snowflakes
gently fall
and rest on the roof

(2012 – still grateful)

years
generations
stories

told
in many
ways

how love
may change
yet endures

(2014)

Christmas carnations
in the vase
that used to hold
fresh flowers for Mom

blessings
each in turn
return
to bless us

(2015)

mild December day
pheasants in the fields
apples still on some trees
poems to write
many books yet to read

from the Psalms
stays in my heart

stored there

strength and beauty
for the soul

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

Psalm 18:1 (KJV)

Today – I love our months and seasons.  Some new health challenges this year, and all going well.

robins

These are two of my first haiku, published in PEGASUS in 1994.

A few petunias
snapdragons, gold and white mums
the robins are gone.

Holding in my heart
as days become cold and dark
robins will return.
