“Peace and Goodwill”
holiday lights

moments of grace
Poem from December 2012 and true today.
“Peace and Goodwill”
after the storm
blue sky and sun
on evergreens
covered with snow
I pray a few verses
from the Psalms
after the storm
and always
Thy statutes have been my songs
in the house of my pilgrimage.
Psalm 119: 54 (KJV)

gifts of small moments
when I read and write
in the middle of all
that happens every day
in our worlds
large and small
I am more than content
with what I have
and have achieved
goals revised
and rewritten for now
When my spirit
was overwhelmed within me,
then thou knewest my path.
Psalm 142: 3a (KJV)

more understanding
as I reread books
on my shelves
and think of loved ones
older now
have weathered a few storms
by God’s grace
and help from others
more work to do
(need to walk more,
get back to book drafts begun)
and always just beginning
with gratitude, hope, faith,
love, beauty . . .

afternoon light
in my small study
shines on small gifts
from my mother
and aunt that I placed
on file cabinets today
a small gesture
that recalls their homes
and brings comfort
to my soul
listened to music
I’ve known for years
poetry books from friends
these many gifts
of each day

are with me still
