What do you like most about your writing?
My writing is from my heart.
one person sees a photo
another a poem
or a story about the gardens
seasons stored in the heart
for Winter
routine care
and happy to wait my turn
I watch the world go by
and my heart
fills with love

Snow melting
in March . . .
my mother’s new smile
Time Of Singing (Vol. 30, No. 1; Spring 2003). A long ago memory!
groceries for Mom
fresh flowers
always on the list
more memories
sometimes than
my heart can hold
I select one or two
write a poem
warm memories
and new dreams
yellow bird
on the branch
with a few gold leaves
how quickly
another generation
grows
seems I only
looked away
for a moment
how good their work
how beautiful their art
falling leaves
and silent sunrise
how easy today
to let go of old dreams
cook some eggs
wash the dishes

Ellen Grace Olinger
I wrote this poem in 1981. It was first published by Time Of Singing in 1991.
AND SO MY SOUL
And so my soul
Spills over
Into print again
As the sun spills
Over flowers
And the neighborhood
Sleeps
Endurance is eloquent
And marigolds are
Admirable because
They bloom
So long
Oh, my heart
Is tender
Yet God keeps it
Strong
And so my soul
Spills over
Into print again
Ellen Grace Olinger
blue sky and green trees
what a comfort
to read near a window
and see the same view
year after year
much has changed
new learning curves
and all I cannot know
though I learn a little more
every day
and sometimes
what is stored
in the heart is enough
Journal Poem
June 26, 2019
Ellen Grace Olinger
December begins
and winter is already
here
days are short
and colder
grateful for rest
this year that began
stronger for me
or so it seemed
then a valley
and new strength
new poems
new dreams
taking care and
following instructions
every day
because I trust this care
this kind and good care
keeping a health journal
at peace in my heart
daily dedication
and content with small steps
Thank you and blessings,
Ellen Grace Olinger
