the world has passed me by
and the world is here
I wrote this poem yesterday for Grief And Acceptance, and thought I would post here today, with different photos. Always hope and beauty.

A poem last January, and we are settled for another winter. And I also know there could be a time to change. The winters can be very hard. I so love our four seasons, and watching carefully. Each month is different. The small strong snowdrops are the first perennials to bloom in our yard. One year, they were covered with new snow, and then there they still were, with their tiny flowers.
Years ago, I wrote this short poem. I remember how significant it was that I could write a poem.
First real snow
last night
My heart lifts
January light.
“First real snow” was published in SMILE (WINTER 2000-01); and reprinted in SMILE (FALL/WINTER 2009-10). With a lot of winter ahead, the light is already different. A unique beauty.
THE SNOWDROP.

I set goals and make lists. If possible, I focus on one task at a time. I cannot achieve several things at once, as when young. At least not now. I am sure everyone varies.
This approach is working well. With patience, over time, I can achieve a lot. My list is shorter than it was some months ago. In 2019, I will set some new goals. I began the selection of blog poems for a print book. Another idea I have is to create a mixed-media art journal. And always to continue here.

The day is thine, the night also is thine:
thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth:
thou hast made summer and winter.

streets I used to travel
to go to Mom’s house
empty stores here and there
with signs of recovery
peaceful memories
(2012)
holiday lights
in Port Washington
memories
of driving back north
from my mother’s home
all those Sundays
years ago

sitting at my blog
grateful for friends
first snowflakes
gently fall
and rest on the roof

Christmas carnations

pheasants in the fields
apples still on some trees
poems to write
many books yet to read
