quiet grey morning
all the books
I hope to read
quiet grey morning
a page or two
and the restful view

enough light

a walk by the river
butterflies and wildflowers
memories of being there
this time last year
after medical appointments
in Sheboygan
I said, “Hello, old friends”
when I saw the trees

Karl took these photos last year. I thought, “It is healing to walk by the river.” Then I realized the river is healing too. Later today, we will review photos from yesterday and share here the next few days.

predawn sky
paints a background
for the new roses
in the blue vase
I watch the light
every day
June’s beautiful
days grew longer
as Spring became
Summer
hosta plants grow
and soon the flowers
will bring hummingbirds
then the wonderful
change to August
and many days
until then
and the light changes
all the time and I often
know by how the light falls
the time, month, season

Journal Poem

Ellen Grace Olinger
more understanding
as I reread books
on my shelves
and think of loved ones
older now
have weathered a few storms
by God’s grace
and help from others
more work to do
(need to walk more,
get back to book drafts begun)
and always just beginning
with gratitude, hope, faith,
love, beauty . . .

blue sky and green trees
what a comfort
to read near a window
and see the same view
year after year
much has changed
new learning curves
and all I cannot know
though I learn a little more
every day
and sometimes
what is stored
in the heart is enough
