June 2

The pattern of clouds is beautiful, with plenty of room for light. No wind, branches are still.

June 2
I watch the sky
wait for the sun

more hours of light

more hours of light
this time in May

I look up often
from the page
I am reading

yes, this window now
the shape of light
on the wall

and later another way
as the day begins to end
the night –
and then predawn

and watching again

An old poem:

predawn
and watching
the sky grow light
gift of another day
to read and write

Lily Photos

One year, we bought an Easter Lily that had lived in a store for awhile. The shape showed how it reached for light. A nice memory, to bring the plant home, and watch it bloom.

Creative Notes

One day this week, I was reading and then saw a beautiful reflection of icicles on the wall and March calendar, our month of Spring (March 20). I note the image here, and perhaps can write the poem another day.

Two books of poetry I am reading these days are by Luci Shaw.

The books are:

Sea Glass: New & Selected Poems (2016, WordFarm)

and Eye of the Beholder: Poems (2018, Paraclete Press).

You can learn more about these books and others at Luci Shaw’s New Releases page. I’ve been reading her poetry and prose for years.
