winter and grateful
for old books and
journals in the mail
soup and fruit

Recent journals received include Modern Haiku, Mayfly (Brooks Books Haiku), and frogpond The Journal of the Haiku Society of America.

August begins
and I remember
poems
rarely at your grave —
geranium blooms freely
on your workshop stool
autumn leaves
the caregiver finds time
to rest
“rarely at your grave” has been published over the years:
Modern Haiku, Fall 1996

rain
and blessed
by poetry journals
in the mail
and on my shelves
that I was not able
to read before
I received the new frogpond The Journal of the Haiku Society of America; and Modern Haiku An Independent Journal of Haiku and Haiku Studies.
Some poets I’ve read for years, and I am always interested to read new writers, and learn about books through reviews. Also interested to see all the ways we share our work – blogs, journals (print and online), books (new and used). More than I can read now, and have learned to trust the right time for different ways to learn and create. I caught up around the house a little this week, and that was creative too.

another autumn
still happy with the art
on my study walls
old paintings
words from my parents
still encourage me
catching up a little
with haiku journals
another autumn

reading poetry
and watching the sky
tomorrow is March
and we will remember
this February
for a long time
the harsh weather
and difficult days
in different ways
yet also the great blessings
the pipes that did not freeze
shelter, warmth, internet
sunrises and sunsets
longer days
another sunrise
the beauty of this day
Today I am reading and rereading poems from The Book of Kells (2019, Cascade Books) by Barbara Crooker. Please visit her books page for more information.
I also plan to spend more time with Modern Haiku, An Independent Journal of Haiku and Haiku Studies (Volume 50.1, Winter – Spring 2019). Paul Miller is Editor, since 2013.
