Gratitude Journal

Awhile ago, I began a handwritten gratitude journal after reading One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.  Today I copied blessings I’ve noted on different pieces of paper into a journal I bought a few years ago.  I believe I have now counted 457 blessings, but I may discover some other papers in a drawer.

500, 501 – counting my blessings

This week I reached 500 blessings, on my way to one thousand gifts.

My gratitude journal is overflowing, and I’ve almost reached 500 blessings on my way to One Thousand Gifts.  I buy notebooks made from recycled paper, and there are not that many blessings per page, as I am keeping the current notebook nearby and often noting those everyday-wonderful-things, without putting my glasses on to write.

I can see how blessings become poems and poems become blessings.

And some older favorites:

summer sounds

I sit across a room from an open window.  Because of the winter we had, I ponder the miracle of open windows.  Birdsongs.  Communication.  The sound of a few cars on the gravel road.  It is early and other sounds will arise throughout the day and then be heard another time or place.

And I don’t want to take anything for granted.

A favorite haiku from 2012:

of summers gone by
voices on the breeze

Update, late afternoon:  I found another old notebook of blessings and had recorded more before; so revised the numbers.

As long as I have some of my notebooks here, I’ll add a few more details.  I began my gratitude journals on December 16, 2012.  My first blessing was “raindrops on the bare branches of the birch tree.”  Blessing number 10 referred to Ann Voskamp and the inspiration from her books, for this project.

To be continued in future posts – maybe some poems to write as I reread.

Blessings, Ellen

Tuesday note

Many of you know Margie from Latebloomerbuds.  She and her friend Gail have a lovely new site.  I look forward to their creative posts.  Their new blog is called Artfully ours . . . a journey between friends.

Awhile ago I read Ann Voskamp’s book, One Thousand Gifts.  I began a gratitude journal, though have not been consistent, since I record so many blessings here.  I thought I’d continue now, and so here are two more blessings, on my way to one thousand . . . and then beginning again by God’s grace.

UPDATE, July 30, 2014 – I found an old notebook.  Had counted to 425 blessings when I paused.  So re-numbered this post: beginning again with 426 (not 351, as stated before).
