grey morning
I take my time
and read the poetry
of the garage light
and Winter

early morning
early morning
silence on a Saturday
in October
cooked brown rice
with kale to last
a few days
time to organize
some mail and
poetry journals
what to read when
one page at a time

grateful prayers
for calm weather
and the sun,
power for the house
and breakfast,
this day

today the sun shines
today the sun shines
after much rain
and I think about
art on the walls
and arrangements
how shapes and colors
work together
and also spaces
with nothing more
like a new journal
or blog post
a page of paper
what may yet
be created?

quiet poems
pink clouds
over Lake Michigan
as I listen to old hymns
my heart gathers peace
for this day
how small the song
of an unknown bird
quiet memories
paintings of trees
on old pine walls
quiet music

“paintings of trees” was published in Four Hundred and Two Snails, Haiku Society of America Members’ Anthology 2018, edited by Nicholas M. Sola.
Poems by Ellen Grace Olinger
two poems
Two poems from my archives that I remembered yesterday:
more colors of blue
in Lake Michigan today
than I can name
the wonder of always learning
dreaming new dreams
wearing
my old sweater
worn thin
Queen Anne’s lace
along country roads

stack of clean T Shirts
the colors of Spring
