early morning
sunflowers wait
for the sun
early morning
fragrance of carnations
in the sunroom
the word
I seem to say
most often
these days —
grateful

as beautiful
without leaves
birch trees
in the forest
day began early
and winding down
light catches the end
of an evergreen branch
in a light breeze
wind uplifting
branches of trees
sunrise
weathered trees
strong and beautiful
my time of healing
paintings of trees
on old pine walls
quiet music
reading a new book
the fragrance
of fresh paper
dragonfly rests
for a moment
on the tree branch
long enough for me
to see each wing

Poem from my February archives:
Spring will return
here and there
and then I’ll say,
“When did this happen?”
Today, though, I rest
in longer light
on evergreens
in a tiny bit of wind

another year
has passed since
my mother’s passing
I sit and quietly read
a book she would like too
